Farmington Obituary: Edward Cruess, Sr., 86

Edward G. Cruess. Sr. was called home to God peacefully on April 27, 2017 leaving his wife Joyce of 51 years as well as his son Ed along with his wife Kelly and their children, Sean, Brigit, Cailin and Emma and many loving family and friends.

He was born in Torrington to Edward and Agnes (Morrissey) Cruess on June 21, 1930 and attended St. Francis School and graduated from Torrington High School before joining the United States Navy and serving for four years. Ed then attended and graduated from St. Michael’s College in Winooski, VT.

Upon graduation Ed moved to Unionville and joined the Hartford Insurance Group in the Bonding Department and subsequently joined the Edward H. Deming Insurance Agency becoming a partner managing the Unionville Office until his retirement. During his insurance career and following his retirement Ed managed the Tunxis Ecumenical Apartment complex.

Always actively involved in his Parish of St. Mary Star of the Sea he served as an Usher, Parish Council member, Building Committee member, as well as a Trustee and recipient of the Archdiocesan St. Joseph Medal.

Ed also served and was a member in many service organizations including the Exchange Club of Farmington, Knights of Columbus Uncas Council #32, Tunxis Hose Co. #1, Unionville Men’s Golf League, Farmington Food Pantry, Services for the Elderly and the Dr. Dunne Scholarship Fund.

Friends may call at the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea, 145 Main St., Unionville on Monday (May 1) from 8:30-10:00am. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in the Church at 10:00am followed by burial with full military honors in St. Mary Cemetery, Avon.
