Farmington Obituary: John Matava, 66

John Patrick “Jack” Matava, 66, passed away on March 6, 2018. He was a life-long resident of Farmington, and also enjoyed spending time at his vacation home in Daytona Beach, FL.

Jack was the proud owner of Edward Motor Service, Inc., which is celebrating its 70th year of continuous operation. He was a fixture within the greater Unionville/Farmington community, serving many years on the Town Plan and Zoning Commission. He was a graduate of Farmington High School, like his wife and children.

A passionate racing enthusiast, Jack regularly attended many NASCAR events including the greatest spectacle in sports: the Daytona 500. He was an avid pilot, Harley-Davidson owner, and loved watching the New England Patriots and Chicago Blackhawks.

Jack is survived by Debbie, his loving wife of nearly 44 years; his daughter Jacquelyn and son-in-law, Brett Richardson, who live in San Antonio, TX; his son Patrick and fiancée Amanda Bollacker, who live in Farmington; his favorite dog, Bella; and numerous friends and colleagues. He is preceded in death by his father Robert J. Matava and mother Elizabeth Deegan Matava.

There will be no calling hours. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Unionville on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers the family strongly suggests a donation be made in Jack’s name to a charity of your choice.
