Farmington Obituary: Norma Barry, 91

Norma Little Barry, 91, of Farmington, formerly of West Hartford, beloved wife of the late James E. Barry Sr. passed away peacefully on August 25th, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in North Dighton, MA February 3rd, 1927 to Leota (Wingate) and Howard Little. Raised in Newport, Rhode Island where she met her husband, Jim of over 55 years. Once married, they relocated to the Hartford area.

As a devout converted Catholic, Norma was a founding member of Saint Helena’s Church of West Hartford and the Women’s Guild. Norma was committed to volunteerism and was the longest volunteer of the Women’s Auxiliary of St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. Norma started by tagging clothes at the Good Samaritan and eventually became the President of the Auxiliary. She arrived well before paid employees and stayed late helping to make the gift shop beautiful.

She is survived by her son James E. and his wife, Kathryn (Johnson) Barry, Jr. of Portsmouth, RI, two daughters, Barbara (Barry) Milligan and her husband Roderick of Portsmouth, RI, Karen (Barry) LeBlanc and her husband James of Farmington. She was a loving Meme/Mimi to eight grandchildren, Elisa Barry Probst and her husband Eric, Traci Barry deGroen, Jeffrey Thomas Milligan and his wife Carol, Kimberly Barry Milligan, Daniel McLean Milligan and his wife Libby, Tori Norma Dutcher and her husband Seth, Andrew James LeBlanc and Matthew Barry LeBlanc. She leaves behind nine great grandchildren Hannah, Brendan and Gretchen Probst, Alexandra and Teagan deGroen, Lillian and Eloise Tinsworth, Hope and Henley Milligan. She leaves behind three loving brothers, Jack, Huck and Ronald Little and beloved sister Noreen (Little) Mosher and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by her brothers, Howard and Albert Little and her favorite cousin Adele Chenette.

Norma was blessed with many special friendships through the Women’s Auxiliary and throughout her life. For all who knew her will remember her as a fun loving, generous, caring Meme/Mimi who welcomed anyone she met.

We are thankful for her loving Brookdale/Gables family, McClean Hospice Services, and Care at Home who have loved her dearly in the last few years.

Friends may call at the Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rte 4, Unionville, on Tuesday, August 28th, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00pm. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home, will be Wednesday August 29th at 9:15 am, followed by The Funeral Liturgy in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
