Farmington Obituary: Roscoe Strong, 91

Condolences to his family and friends.

Roscoe “Jim” C. Strong, 91, of Farmington, beloved husband of Alice (Hein) Strong, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 4th.

Born September 20th, 1924 in Willsboro, NY, he was the son of the late Dewey and Ortha (Tyrrell) Strong. Prior to retiring, Jim was a Foreman at Fenn Manufacturing in Newington for 30 years. Jim was a highly decorated and twice wounded United States Marine Corps vetrean of World War II, serving with distinction on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands in the Pacific. For his heroic conspicuous gallantry during a hostile engagement, he was awarded the Silver Star. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

Besides his wife, Jim is survived by his four children, Joan Strong Spielman of Burlington, Betty Strong Armington and her husband Charles of Terryville, John E. Strong and his wife Bonnie of Murrells Inlet, SC and James W. Strong of Torrington, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, his sister-in-law, Hanna Strong of Largo, FL, his sister-in-law, Margaret “Peggy” Hein of Farmington and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his three brothers, Harold, Donald and Douglas Strong.

The family would like to thank the staff on the 4th Floor at John Dempsey Hospital for their kindness and care.

Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Saturday (Feb. 13) from 11:00am – 12:30pm. Funeral Services will be held in The Ahern Funeral Home at 12:30pm with Rev. Wendell Taylor officiating.
