Farmington Obituary: Rose Sponzo, 98

Condolences to her family and friends.

Rose M. Sponzo passed away on September 10, at the age of 98.

The daughter of Thomas and Vincenzia Sponzo, Rose was born in Hartford on August 21, 1919. She received her education at St. Joseph Cathedral School, Mount St. Joseph Academy and St. Joseph College, where she majored in Latin and Greek, and from which she graduated in 1941.

She was one of the first female property and casualty underwriters in the Hartford insurance industry, working for Travelers for over 27 years and then for Aetna for 4 years.

Rose enjoyed traveling with her family, and visited Italy over a dozen times. She was a longtime resident of Farmington Woods and later the Gables of Farmington; she enjoyed the beautiful natural surroundings, lake and patio, where she and her sisters spent many enjoyable hours.

Rose is survived by her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Dr. James Sponzo, Judge Maurice Sponzo and Dr. Michael Sponzo, and four sisters, Philomena Sponzo, Jane Sponzo, Theresa Sponzo, and Agnes DeLisa.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Church of St. Ann, 289 Arch Road in Avon on Friday morning (Sept. 15) from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 11:00am in the Church of Ann followed by burial in the family plot at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Missionaries of the Poor, P.O. Box 29893 Atlanta, GA 30359.
