Farmington Obituary: Woodrow Saccoccio, 99

Condolences to his family and friends.

Woodrow “Woody” Saccoccio, 99, of Farmington, beloved husband of the late Carolyn (Wollenberg) Saccoccio, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 12th, 2017.

Born January 3rd, 1918 in Bristol, he was the son of the late Ferdinando and Giovanna Sciola Saccoccio. Prior to retiring, he was a Machine Tool Designer for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft / United Technologies Corporation for 35 years.

Woody was a noted musician in the area for many years. He taught music at the Warehouse Point Orphanage and led his own 23 piece “swing band” orchestra where he enjoyed playing the saxophone, trombone, trumpet, clarinet and piano. He had the distinction of being invited to audition for the Marine Corps Band (aka the “President’s Band”) in addition to playing with a few professional Big Band musicians including, Merritt Trott.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Holly Jen and Dr. Kim Pershall of Lubbock, TX, his son and daughter-in-law, Woodrow “Chip” and Mary W. Saccoccio of Avon and four grandchildren.

Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Saturday (Aug. 19) from 9:00-10:30am. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be at 10:30am followed by Graveside Funeral Services at 11:00am in Riverside Cemetery, Farmington.
