Farmington Waives Bid Rules To OK Tennis Court Fix

Tennis courts at the town's middle school will be renovated and repaired.

FARMINGTON, CT — Tennis courts at a local middle school will get a much-needed makeover, with the town's top governing body recently voting to waiving bidding rules to get the job done.

The Farmington Town Council voted unanimously Sept. 13 to waiving bidding procedures and award a contract to Hinding Tennis LLC out of West Haven.

Hinding will repair the tennis courts at Irving A. Robbins Middle School, with the council putting a $53,000 cap on tennis court repairs.

The company specializes in the construction and repairs of all-weather, cushioned tennis courts and other athletic surfaces, according to its website.

Because the project exceeded $25,000, town officials were actually obligated to solicit open bidding for the proposal unless the council voted to waive that requirement, which is listed in section 51-5 of Farmington's town charter.
