Anti-Racism Group Hosting Special Talk In Farmington

The community forum on race relations is Thursday, both in-person and via Zoom.

FARMINGTON, CT — A local task force charged with diversity promotion in the Farmington community is hosting a special forum Thursday both virtually and in person.

The Farmington Racial Equality Task Force is hosting an event entitled "Transformational Conversations: Moving from Fear to Curiosity," facilitated by Debby Irving, author of "Waking Up White."

"This two-hour workshop is a follow-up to 'I'm a Good Person! Isn't that Enough!'" reads a statement from the task force. "It will focus on how to broach and navigate differences of perspective and opinion through transformational conversations"

The event is free to the public, but registration is required.

Farmington's task force was created in 2020 during a volatile time in the wake of the George Floyd murder.

It's role, according to the town's website, is "to examine and create a plan to develop strategies and community partnerships to address racial inequality, to educate residents and to increase awareness about Black Lives by identifying areas of improvement in the community and to recommend an action plan to eliminate factors that lead to inequality."
