Farmington School Board Appoints New Administrator

FARMINGTON, CT — The Farmington School System has a new administrator, one whose charge is to help those pupils in the school district get the extra help they may need to succeed.

The Farmington Board of Education Feb. 6 unanimously voted to appoint veteran educator Seamus Cullinan to become the district's director of special services effective July 1.

The vote was in open session following an executive session at a special meeting on Monday.

Cullinan is currently the director of student services for the Winchester Public School district in Connecticut.

In Farmington, the special services department in the school system is charged with aiding pupils who may require special education to excel in a school envionment.

The department oversee several services that pupils may need, such as special education, speech and language therapy, school psychological services, social work, occupational therapy, physical therapy, health services and gifted and talented support services and tutoring.

Cullinan will replace the outgoing Laurie T. Singer, the district's current special services chief.

Minimal discussions happened in open session during the appointment proceedings, but Cullinan was welcomed and congratulated.

"Congratulations, Seamus, welcome to Farmington," said Farmington Board of Education Chairperson Elizabeth Fitzsimmons Monday.

"We're very impressed with your skills and we can't wait until you start and start formal relationships."

Cullinan thanked the board and said close relationships will be key upon his arrival. "Yes, that's what I plan on doing," he said.
