Farmington Senior Living Facility Celebrates International Culture

FARMINGTON, CT — A local senior living facility recently transformed into a veritable United Nations via a special week dedicated to world cultures.

Masonicare at Middlewoods of Farmington, 509 Middle Road, hosted its annual International Week last month, featuring resident- and staff-led presentations highlighting cultures from around the world.

The week-long program included presentations on Bolivia, Uruguay, Canada, Italy, Puerto Rico, Yemen, and Jamaica, with organizers aiming to reflect the diversity within the community.

Staff members led several cultural demonstrations.

Both staff and residents contributed to the programming, which also included culinary presentations by staff chefs who prepared maqlooba, a traditional Yemeni dish.

The meal, which translates to “upside down,” consists of layered fried vegetables, spiced meat, and rice cooked in a single pot.

Middlewoods Executive Director Bianca Turcote-Reome said the event is intended to strengthen connections within the community.

“International Week is a special experience for our community,” Turcote-Reome said. “It gives our residents and staff the opportunity to share their traditions and celebrate the different cultures that shape who we are.”
