Farmington Sports Legend Jean Hunt Passes Away

The seven-time Hall of Fame inductee amassed 11 state championships during her tenure at Farmington High School.

FARMINGTON, CT - Jean Hunt, one of the primary proponents for the expansion of girls high school sports in Connecticut, passed away May 20 in Lexington, Mass., the Collinsville Press reported.

Hunt was instrumental in the creation of the first state tournaments in girls volleyball (1965), girls basketball (1972) and field hockey (1973). She also coached six sports during her tenure at Farmington High School, capturing 11 state championships.

She was inducted into seven Halls of Fame, and received the prestigious Gold Key Award from the Connecticut Sports Writers' Alliance in 2001.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 25 at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd., Lexington at 11 a.m. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
