Farmington Student At West Hartford School Earns Major Scholarship
The senior at the private Kingswood-Oxford School earned a National Merit Scholarship Wednesday.
FARMINGTON/WEST HARTFORD, CT — A Farmington resident attending a private high school in West Hartford received a major national scholarship Wednesday
The National Merit Scholarship Corp. announced Wednesday more than 2,900 winners of National Merit Scholarships, which are financed by U.S. colleges and universities.
Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution.

These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
Among the winners locally was Farmington resident Bassil I. Chughtai who will graduate this month from the Kingswood-Oxford School in West Hartford.

He plans to study international relations at Tufts University in Massachusetts and he earned the National Merit Tufts University Scholarship.
An additional group of Scholars will be announced in July, bringing the total number of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship recipients in the 2024 competition to more than 3,600.
