Farmington Students Back in Schools This Week

FARMINGTON, CT — School buildings in Farmington opened their doors for the first time since March Wednesday with about 80 percent of students opting to attend classes in the respective buildings under a hybrid model with built-in coronavirus precautions.

Under the hybrid plan, students whose last names beginning with the letters A through K are making up Cohort A. Those with last names beginning in L through Z make up Cohort B. The cohorts alternate weekly between in-class learning and virtual learning.

The plan, released earlier this summer, calls for a transition to a full in-person learning model by the middle to end of October.

On Wednesday, Cohort A was in school and Cohort B was in remote interactive learning. The schedule is to be reversed on Thursday and Friday, according to the plan.

The approach allows both cohorts to meet in-person during the first week of school. The B cohort is to meet twice during the first week because Cohort B's first week of in-person learning is the week of Sept. 14.

The building are at about 50 percent of capacity on any given day, officials said.

The students opting out take part in interactive virtual classrooms.
