Farmington Students Win Superintendent Association Award
FHS student Kurt Daigle and Irving A. Robbins Middle School Student Dayna Deakin won the award.

Two Farmington Public Schools students won the 2014 Farmington Valley Superintendent’s Association Student Recognition Award and were honored in late November.

Kurt Daigle is known by peers, faculty and family as a charismatic, responsible and intelligent
scholar who always follows through on his commitments. Kurt has completed a rigorous
program of study at Farmington High School including multiple honors and Advanced
Placement classes, achieving a 95 grade point average over four years.
Kurt has served the school community as news anchor and chief production associate for the
weekly 9:05 News television broadcast and as an audio-visual technician during his entire high
school career. Kurt has had responsibility for managing the audio-visual needs for all schoolwide
programs, including talent shows, faculty and student meetings, play productions, and
musicals. Outside of school, Kurt has been significantly involved in Relay for Life, actively
participating in the organization of a town-wide fundraising effort to fight cancer. Kurt has
recruited hundreds of his fellow students to support and participate in this impressive two-day
event. Kurt is also a Boy Scout, and he has progressed through the leadership ranks to the level
of Senior Patrol Leader this year.
Kurt is an aspiring School Counselor, and he is committed to continuing his involvement in
service to his school and his community as part of his lifelong passion to help others.
Irving A. Robbins Middle School student Dayna Deakin:

Dayna Deakin, an eighth grade student on Team G, is an absolutely delightful student and a
positive role model for others. She is bright and articulate and consistently demonstrates
impressive critical thinking and reasoning skills and tremendous self-direction and
resourcefulness. Her positive attitude and humble confidence make her a strong collaborator
with her peers. Dayna’s active involvement makes our school a more special place for all. She
is both a strings and choral student and a member of IAR’s Chamber Orchestra, this year serving
as first viola. She performed in our production of High School Musical last year and is an
accomplished field hockey player. Dayna is committed to service to others. She has been active
in IAR’s Green Team environmental club and this year serves as co-president and leader of its
outreach committee. She also served as a homeroom representative on student council and
currently is the secretary. Dayna has been active in our Unified Basketball and FRIENDS
programs, which promote inclusion and friendship between our special-needs students and their
typical peers. Finally, she has volunteered at a local nursing home with her dog and has
participated in the annual Relay for Life for the past three years.
