Farmington Tractor Supply Store Planning Greenhouse Addition

The Farmington Planning and Zoning Commission will discuss the plan next month.

FARMINGTON, CT — The Tractor Supply Co. store in town is looking to expand by adding a greenhouse to increase the sale of plants and other garden items.

The store, located at 361 Scott Swamp Road, has submitted an application to build the addition to the town, but it is looking to update plans.

As a result, expected action at the Dec. 12 Farmington Planning and Zoning Commission hearing was tabled to the Jan. 9, 2023 meeting.

Town land-use officials are working with the store and had granted them an extension.
Ultimately, the PZC will have to approve a site plan for the project.

The project appears to be part of a national trend of Tractor Supply adding greenhouses to expand garden services and plant offerings.

In other proposals nationally, the greenhouses are also accompanied by a drive-through component where customers can order something at the greenhouse, pay for it and then have staff load it into their vehicle.

Tractor Supply is a national chain that identifies itself as a "rural lifestyle retailer" that sells items for home, land, pets and animals.
