Farmington Volleyball Looking for State Tournament Championship

The Indians cruised into the Class L title match by crushing Pomperaug in the semifinals Wednesday.

WOLCOTT, CT — With one exception, the Farmington High School girls volleyball team has steamrolled every opponent this season, winning every match in three straight sets.

Such was the case Wednesday, as the top-ranked Indians shut out Pomperaug 3-0 in the Class L tournament semifinals at Wolcott High School. Game scores were 25-11, 25-22 and 25-10.

Setter Ali Troup had 34 assists, while Paige Freckleton recorded nine kills and four blocks to pace the Farmington attack.

The win sets up an all-Central Connecticut Conference final between Farmington and second-seeded RHAM, which shut out No. 3 Joel Barlow, 3-0. The rematch of the 2014 final, which the Indians won in five exciting sets, is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. at East Haven High School.

The championship pairing also gives the Indians a chance to avenge their only hiccup this season - a 3-0 loss to the Sachems in the finals of the CCC tournament on Nov. 5.
