FHS Musicians are Nutmeg Orchestra Concerto Winners!

First prize winner cellist Lillian Yim is a senior at Farmington High School, second prize winner trombonist Chanjoo Kim is a senior at Watkinson School and third prize winner violinist Natalie Wong is a junior at Farmington High School. Lillian performed the third movement of Elgar’s cello concerto, Chanjoo performed Barat’s Andante et Allegro, and Natalie performed the first movement of Saint-Saens’ third violin concerto.
The winners received cash prizes and certificates. Lillian will perform Elgar's concerto with the Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra May 9, 2020.
Natalie has fond memories of attending the Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra Educational Children’s Concerts when she was in third grade. “I remember being very excited about it, and many other children also were. It being the first time I got to share an interactive musical experience with my classmates and one of the first times I had seen a symphony orchestra live!”
The competition is open to high school students participating in the music departments of school systems sending third graders to attend the Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra Educational Children’s Concerts, in high schools collaborating with the orchestra on special projects, or studying privately with members of the Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra. The competition is sponsored by the Oles Family Charitable Foundation.
