Girls Basketball State Tournament Scoreboard
First round action commenced Tuesday in the Class L and S girls basketball state tournaments.

Opening round action in the CIOAC Class L and S girls basketball tournaments got underway Tuesday, and turned out to be less than successful for a majority of teams from the north central Connecticut area. Of the 18 squads from Patch towns in Hartford and Tolland counties who took to the court, just eight advanced to the second round.
The biggest shocker came in Class S, which will have a new champion after two-time defending titleholder and No. 2 seed Canton was upset by 31st-seeded Trinity Catholic, 44-43.
Here are the day's results, plus second-round matchups for local teams. Click the class header for the complete bracket.
