Give mom a Damn Yankee for Mother's Day!

Lot's of theater since my post show lament!

In NYC, "Inventing Mary Martin", a 90 minute musical, featuring three female singers and one guy, that takes you back way before "South Pacific" and "Peter Pan"...I had no idea how popular she was in the movies!  If you love Mary Martin, you'll love the show...way off Broadway, so not terribly expensive!

At Lincoln Center, "Act One" based on Moss Hart's autobiography...just wonderful, especially if you love Broadway!  I picked up the book a few months ago, when I heard it was being developed into a play, and have enjoyed every page...laugh out loud!  Tony Shaloub (Monk) is just great in the show, as is Andrea Martin and the entire cast.  I can't recommend it highly enough!

Closer to home, "Damn Yankees", the Red Sox Version, at the Goodspeed Opera House, is just terrific as well.  I interviewed a couple of the cast members on SpotLight last week, so log on to www.wliswmrd.net, click on demand, and scroll down til you find the show.  "Damn Yankees" has something for everyone - dancing baseball players,  beautiful women in skimpy clothing, beautiful men in no clothing (yup, you read right!)  Just too much fun all around...hint, hint, tickets would be a great Mother's Day gift if you aren't sure what to get her!

And even closer to home, "A cup of Joe at the Iffy Fish Cafe" at Hole in the Wall Theater in New Britain will keep you entertained and on your toes with a fun story line and some great performances.  It only runs thru this weekend, so if you want something kinda quirky and creepy, it's your cup of joe!

And, "Godspell" by the Plainville Choral Society, also running this weekend - one of my favorite shows!
