Hartford Marathon Foundation's Women's Triathlon

The annual Women's Triathlon, presented by the Hartford Marathon Foundation returns Sunday, September 7, to Winding Trails.

Since 2000, USA Triathlon’s female membership has grown from 27 percent to almost 37 percent of their total members due partly to the growth of women’s-only events like the Hartford Marathon Foundation’s Women’s Triathlon. The annual Farmington tradition is scheduled for Sunday, September 7, and expects a record number of participants.

The sprint distance race will start off with a swim in Dunning Lake at Winding Trails. Following the half mile swim, athletes of varied experience levels, ages and speeds will transition to a 12 mile bike ride through the quiet roads of Farmington and Avon and finish with a flat 5K run on the shaded, wide dirt trails in Winding Trails.

While participants are exclusively women in this event, both men and women can sign up to volunteer. More information is available on the Hartford Marathon Foundation’s volunteer incentive program, including perks and rewards for volunteers.

The top three finishers in each category will be awarded a unique trophy designed by local artist Karen Rossi. Regarded for her original metal sculptures and Fanciful Flights whimsical characters, Rossi will be at the event on race morning to personally autograph awards.

“The Women’s Triathlon is conducted in a friendly non-intimidating environment, suitable for women of all abilities and ages. It is truly a great opportunity for discovering what triathlons are about in a supportive and highly energized race format,” said Beth Shluger, founder of the Hartford Marathon Foundation and Women’s Triathlon Race Director.
