Harwinton Man Charged In Fatal Burlington Incident: Police

A 17-year-old female fell out of the bed of a pickup truck on May 21, 2023, and later died, police said.

BURLINGTON/HARWINTON, CT — State police Monday announced recent charges against a suspect accused of being responsible for the death of a teen who fell out of a pickup truck in Burlington in May 2023.

As a result, police said Monday, Cooper Oullette, 19, of Harwinton, has been charged with first-degree manslaughter and delivery of alcohol to a minor.

Oullette has been released on a $50,000 cash/surety bond and was scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Monday, July 15.

According to Connecticut State Police, on May 21, 2023, at approximately 1:25 a.m., Troop L - Litchfield received a call from the Bristol Police Department indicating a 17-year-old female was brought to Bristol Hospital by family members after allegedly falling out of a pickup truck earlier in the evening on Fieldview Drive in Burlington.

The operator of the pickup truck at the time of the alleged incident was positively identified as Oullette, state police said.

The Western District Major Crime Squad subsequently assumed the death investigation.

Following a lengthy investigation, police submitted a warrant for the arrest of Oullette, which was granted on July 11 by New Britain Superior Court.

On Friday, July 12, at approximately noon, Oullette turned himself in at Troop L, where he was taken into custody, processed, and charged.
