Hill-Stead In Farmington To Celebrate Juneteenth

Museum to host day-long Juneteenth event on Saturday, June 25.

FARMINGTON, CT — Juneteenth celebrations will continue at a local museum next weekend, with the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington hosting a special day to honor a most-important holiday.

The museum, located at 35 Mountain Road, Farmington, is hosting its "Juneteenth at Hill-Stead" event on Saturday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission is free, but museum officials would like folks to pre-register so they can guage expected attendance for social distancing purposes.

Juneteenth, which is actually June 19, celebrates the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States at the end of the Civil War.

It has been celebrated annually on June 19 in various parts of the United States since 1865.
Joining local cultural organizations, including The Amistad Center for Art & Culture and ShopBlackCT, Hill-Stead is hosting this event as part of a month-long series of Juneteenth celebrations taking place throughout the region.

"Please join us for a day of discovery and celebration featuring regional Black artists, organizations and businesses," reads an announcement on the museum website.

"This outdoor community event will offer visual art, food, music, and family fun activities on Hill-Stead’s picturesque grounds."
