FARMINGTON, CT — The Farmington Public Library is hosting a special program Thursday — just in time for Halloween — about one of the scariest figures in U.S. history ... Charles Manson.

The library's main site at 6 Monteith Drive will welcome Manson/Helter Skelter scholar Pat Richardson, who will discuss the notorious cult leader from the 1960s who convinced followers to commit murder.

It will take place Thursday, Oct. 3, at 6 p.m. at the library.

In 1969, Manson disciples brutally stabbed Sharon Tate, a pregnant actress from that era, along with several other prominent members of the Los Angeles community that summer.

The murder spree captured the nation's attention (to its horror) and Manson was eventually tried and imprisoned, where he died in 2017 at the age of 83.

The library is calling the event "a true crime mystery talk that is sure to chill your bones."

As a result, the free program is for adults only and it will be in the main library's Jay Johnston Community Room.

"Richardson has traveled to the sites and has interviewed people who are close to some of the people who committed the crimes," wrote the Farmington Library in an announcement.
