Farmington Pushes To Make Housing Affordable
The PZC has approved a pause in housing developments as it looks to tweak town rules to increase more affordable housing developments.

FARMINGTON, CT — As Farmington officials look to modify its regulations to encourage and include more affordable housing, they have also approved a six-month pause in housing development in town to help facilitate those changes.
The Farmington Plan & Zoning Commission Jan. 9 unanimously approved two moratoriums regarding housing applications in town: one for single-family units and the other for multi-family units.
During this six-month period, the town will not consider new applications for such housing development proposals.

The reason for the pause, which will expire July 20, is to give town staffers and PZC members time to re-do zoning regulations so they're in line both affordable housing rules within the town's "affordable housing plan."
The town has the option of extending the pause another six months if its desired regulatory work has not been completed.

In essence, the town is looking to make an allowance of affordable housing a condition of approval for any future developments.
That is not the case, according to current regulations.
In 2021, the Town of Farmington finalized and approve its affordable housing plan, which states diverse housing stocks will allow folks of all demographics to live and thrive in town and continue to live in Farmington as they age.
