I support Jay Tulin for Farmington TPZ Board of Appeals Alternate
A letter of support for a candidate for public office
I am writing in support of Jay Tulin’s candidacy to be an Alternate for the Town Planning and Zoning Commission Board of Appeals in Farmington. As Chair of the Farmington Human Relations Commission and Secretary of the Citizens Coalition For Equal Access, I have been working closely with Jay for over a year on issues of concern to our town’s large number of residents with mobility limitations. From Day One of working with him, Jay’s extensive background in public service--including 20 years as a Human Resource Consultant in the CT Department of Administrative Services--was evident in his understanding and interest in the functions of government at all levels. He advocates effectively and persistently with legislators at both the state and national level and has faithfully attended countless meetings locally. He also researches issues and tries to get as much information as he can before taking a position.
Another distinguishing feature of Jay’s public service is his commitment to informing and involving his fellow citizens about the initiatives of their local government. From the minute he joined the Human Relations Commission, Jay was advocating for a stronger internet presence and more communication with the general public about our work. He is committed to open dialogue, transparency, and accountability.
Finally, Jay’s interest in public office clearly stems from his concern for people in general. It is not a random choice that his first service to the Town has been on the Human Relations Commission. He is deeply committed to maintaining and enhancing those things that contribute to Farmington citizens’ quality of life: preservation of the environment, a sense of community and caring for all our citizens, and a responsible and responsive government.
