On Sunday, June 1st at 5 p.m., St. James Parish and First Church, Farmington will offer the final film in our film series in First Church's Amistad Hall, the music room (take elevators to third floor) on School Street in Farmington. We will enjoy the amazing film Departures, set in Japan, which examines the rituals around death in Japan in the guise of a young cellist (Daigo) who has returned home with his young wife after losing his job at a symphony. Desperate for money, he answers an ad for a job thinking it is for a travel agent but it turns out to be an assistant in preparing the dead for burial. But while Daigo's wife and friends universally despise his new line of work, he begins to discover the importance of his work, and is able to begin to confront his own challenges with his father, who left the family when he was a child. With much humor, Departures inspires. Refreshments provided and we will have time for discussion after the film.
