Large Bear Spotted in Farmington Neighborhood

Farmington ranks third in Connecticut for most bear sightings in the past year.

FARMINGTON, CT — A large black bear was observed wandering in a neighborhood on Hilltop Road Wednesday morning.

Resident Tom Zaccheo sent a pair of photos to Patch, showing the bear first in a lightly wooded residential area, then near some cars.

Zaccheo said no tags were visible on the animal's ears.

According to the most recent statistics from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, there have been 4,674 bear sightings in Connecticut in the past year. Farmington ranks third on that list with 284 sightings.
