Last week, I attended a free job-search event sponsored by Jewish Employment Transition Services (“JETS”). After a coffee and “schmoozing” hour, the 130+ attendees from all around Connecticut heard from a money coach and a career coach sharing helpful tips on resume writing and job interviews. The messages were encouraging and empowering.

JETS connects professional leaders with job seekers by offering FREE monthly workshops on all job-search related topics, which include networking, social media, branding, interviewing, presentation skills, accessing online job sites, salary negotiations, resume writing, job search strategies and career transitioning. JETS also sends out a weekly newsletter announcing the latest job opportunities from Connecticut and Massachusetts employers. The professional and enthusiastic human resources volunteers who run the program have plenty of real-life experience, and are ready and eager to help you.

Over the last five years, JETS has helped more than 1500 participants find jobs. Participants credit the program with, among other things, helping them: learn about resources available to job seekers and career opportunities; meet new people who can help them find a job; and develop more self-confidence and a renewed enthusiasm for their job search.
Despite its name, you don’t have to be Jewish to join JETS. It is a non-sectarian outreach and support program open to all unemployed and under-employed people throughout the state. It is sponsored by Jewish Family Services of Greater Hartford whose mission is “tikkun olam” – repairing the world through caring and compassion.
