One Killed, Farmington Man Among 2 Injured in Route 9 Crash

A southbound vehicle suddenly crossed the median into the northbound lanes, prompting a fatal collision.

NEW BRITAIN, CT — A Bristol man was killed and a Farmington man and his passenger were injured during a head-on collision on Route 9 Sunday night, state police said.

A police report stated a 2000 Porsche Boxster operated by Nicholas Formica, 523, of Bristol, was traveling southbound on Route 9 near exit 25 around 9:26 p.m. when it crossed the center median into the northbound lanes and struck a 1998 Toyota Camry operated by Daniel Conolly, 23, of Farmington.

After a collision, the Porsche became engulfed in flames, with Formica trapped inside. The Toyota also burst into flames, and Conolly and a passenger were pulled from the vehicle by passersby, police said.

Formica was pronounced dead at the scene, while Conolly and his passenger were transported to Hartford Hospital, police said.

The crash remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call Trooper Casey Cistulli at 860-534-1000 ext. 6038.
