Athletics

Senior Naya L. will join the Division I soccer program at St. John’s University in New York this fall.

Naya signed her national letter of intent at a ceremony held in her honor on Wednesday, February 7. After an introduction by Co-Director of Athletics Carrie Begey and remarks by Head Coach Avi Dubnov, Naya expressed gratitude for her family, teammates, friends, and the Porter's community.

"To my team. It still hasn't set in that I will never step out on the field with you all again. I can say with 100 percent confidence that I have never loved soccer as much as I do when I play with you all," Naya shares. "I am so proud of all we have accomplished. I think we have shown this school what can happen when every member of a team truly loves their sport and is willing to sacrifice everything on the field for their teammates."

Coach Dubnov noted his admiration for Naya's dedication in his remarks. "I will always compliment anyone who has had to mentally and physically recover from a lengthy athletic injury; recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear to the level you were before is a phenomenal achievement, but doing it twice is remarkable," he says. "Congratulations, Naya, from your family at Miss Porter's School. We can't wait to follow your career in Division I soccer."

Naya is a four-year member of the varsity soccer team and star goalkeeper. She was invited to play in the All-Star High School Game for two years, and won an All-State award in 2016.
