New Location Announced For Prominent Farmington Bookstore

The store announced it will officially leave its current site on May 2.

FARMINGTON/WEST HARTFORD, CT — Details on the future of the Barnes & Noble bookstore in Farmington are much, much clearer, and folks won't have to travel far to visit its new site.

Officials with the Farmington Barnes & Noble said Tuesday that the current site at 1599 Southeast Road, Farmington, will close on May 2.

But in a bit of good news for local book lovers, Barnes & Noble will, simply, move to the nearby Westfarms Mall on the Farmington/West Hartford town line.

Officials at Barnes & Noble said the new store will feature a new, updated store design and it will still offer books, toys, games, gifts, DVDs, CDs, and vinyl records.

As for the current Barnes & Noble site, the Farmington Planning and Zoning Commission last month unanimously approved a request for a new monument sign there.

Steve Marszalek, owner of Goldfish Swim School and co-owner of the property, presented the application, which was presented by Alex Thomas of TDG Architects.

The site, located in both Farmington and Newington, is being redeveloped as a multi-tenant commercial space.

Reportedly, the new Barnes & Noble in the mall will open this summer.
