As colder temperatures arrive, Farmington-based fine artist Kate Emery is raising awareness and funds for ImmaCare Inc., a Hartford-based nonprofit that strives to eliminate homelessness in the Hartford region. Emery will donate 75 percent of proceeds from the auction of her original oil painting, Fall at Great Pond, to ImmaCare, and bids may be placed online at KateEmery.com/auctions through 8 p.m. on October 30, 2021.

"Growing up, I took my home mostly for granted," says Emery. "It was the ground beneath my feet. It was the warm safe place where I laid my head down every night. It was the door from which I would venture into the world, knowing that door would welcome me home whenever I needed to retreat from the world. What a blessing!"

"ImmaCare is creating a supportive community to prevent and eliminate homelessness and in doing so helps bring this gift to others," Emery says. Through its shelter, supportive housing, mobile outreach and advocacy work, ImmaCare seeks meaningful solutions on behalf of the growing homeless population in the region. ImmaCare believes that housing is a human right and provides emergency shelter, permanent housing, food, clothing, referrals to medical assistance, case management and employment assistance with unconditional love to those with no other options.

A second-career artist who works full-time from her studio in Farmington, Emery partners with nonprofits so that each of her works sold benefits a community cause. “I want my work to have a positive impact on people in need,” says the entrepreneur and founder of The Walker Group, a Farmington-based professional technology services social enterprise. Emery also founded reSET, a Hartford-based nonprofit that seeks to advance the social enterprise sector in the state.

Fall at Great Pond, a framed 12x24-inch autumn landscape painting, will allow the winning bidder to enjoy this vibrant season year-round, while the funds raised will support an organization with more than 40 years' experience in combating homelessness. It can be viewed on the artist’s website (KateEmery.com) and is valued at $1,000.
