Victim Killed In Violent Crash In Farmington Identified: CSP: UPDATE

The 6-vehicle accident happened on Interstate 84 at about 6:06 p.m. Sunday, with only minor injuries reported among the other drivers.

FARMINGTON, CT — A 29-year-old male driving a vehicle owned by a Hartford janitorial services company has been identified as the victim killed in a violent, multi-vehicle wreck on Interstate 84 in Farmington Sunday evening.

According to a Connecticut State Police accident report released late Monday morning, the victim is identified as Eloi Batista Da Silva, 29.

Da Silva was pronounced dead at the scene following a six-vehicle accident on I-84 East and West in Farmington at about 6:06 p.m. Sunday.

A home address wasn't listed by police in the accident report, but the owner of the vehicle — a 2006 Civic Hybrid — was identified as EB Cleaning Services LLC out of an apartment on Lawrence Street in Hartford.

The chain-reaction crash featured an initial collision on I-84, one sending the Civic across the median and into the opposite side of the expressway, with several vehicles plowing into each other.

Police said Da Silva's Civic was traveling on I-84 East near Exit 36 when a 2014 Toyota Corolla being driven by a 43-year-old Wethersfield man collided with the Civic.

This sent the Civic through the left lane, then the center median, and into the left lane of I-84 West in the other direction.

That is where the Civic was slammed by a 2021 Toyota Tacoma double cab pickup truck being driven by a 63-year-old Waterbury man.

This, police said, caused a chain reaction crash involving three other vehicles on I-84 West, all of which became disabled.

While Da Silva was pronounced dead at the scene, police said only minor injuries were reported with all of the other victims on that side of the highway.

Police said the driver of the Toyota Corolla that initially hit the Civic on I-84 East evaded the scene, but police were able to locate that vehicle and have it towed away.

According to police, the Corolla's motorist reported not being injured in the collision.

State police did not announce any charges in connection with the accident, but it remains under investigation.

Any witness to the crash, especially those with a dash camera, is asked to contact State Police Trooper Michael Dean at Troop H in Hartford at 860-534-1098 or via email at michael.dean@ct.gov.
