As Practice Opens, a Look at Farmington Fall State Championships

FARMINGTON, CT — Thursday marks the official opening of practice for fall high school sports, and the first day gives every team hope and optimism that perhaps a state championship is in the cards.

Thirty-two Farmington teams have captured state titles in fall sports in the past:

• boys soccer (11): 2013 (L), 2012 (L), 2010 (LL), 2008 (LL), 2003 (L), 1996 (M), 1992 (L), 1986 (M), 1982 (M), 1979 (M), 1974 (M)
• girls volleyball (8): 2014 (L), 1979 (S), 1972, 1970, 1969, 1968, 1967, 1966
• boys cross country (5): 1989 (M), 1974 (M/State Open), 1973 (M), 1972 (M/State Open), 1971 (M)
• field hockey (4): 1999 (M), 1995 (M), 1982 (M), 1979 (M)
• girls soccer (3): 2005 (L), 2003 (L), 1986 (M)
• girls swimming (1): 2008 (L)
