President of the Mormon Temple under construction in Farmington Announced
Another sign that the Mormon temple in Farmington is nearing completion
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the temple president for the first Mormon temple in Connecticut. Wayne Spencer Taylor is a member of the Glastonbury congregation of the Church. Until last year he served for a decade as the Hartford Stake President, presiding over ten congregations in and around Hartford, which includes Farmington and Avon. He has served in many other capacities within the LDS Church. President Taylor recently retired from his profession as financial consolidations manager with a local company.
President Taylor’s wife, Carol Jean Starkey Taylor, will serve along side him as the temple matron, taking on many temple responsibilities, too. She also has a long history of service at many levels within the Church, including with the Relief Society (women’s organization) as well as with youth organizations. Both have served in teaching and administrative positions.
Don’t miss a rare opportunity to tour inside the Hartford Temple this fall. Once dedicated, LDS temples are closed to the general public. The free public open house period for the Hartford Temple, over which President Taylor will preside, will run from Friday, September 30 to Saturday, October 22, 2016, excluding October 1 and Sundays. A few weeks before the open house, the public can make reservations at <templeopenhouse.lds.org> .

In President Taylor’s words, a “temple is a House of God, a special place where we can feel His spirit and learn of Him. We feel every person is a son or daughter of God and that God loves each of us and wants us to be happy – now and eternally. A temple is central to our relationship to God.”
