Roadway Closed Until July 27 After Farmington Flood: UPDATE
Farmington was one of several northern and central Connecticut towns drenched with heavy Fourth of July rains.
FARMINGTON, CT — A state road in Farmington will now be closed for several days following Tuesday's Fourth of July flooding caused by a severe rainstorm that dumped inches of rain in a short period of time.
The Farmington Police Department Wednesday morning said West Avon Road (Route 167), between the 75 and 99 addresses, could be closed "no later than July 27."
But the state Department of Transportation Friday further fine-tuned predictions for the closure, indicating it would be done by July 27.

The DOT said "emergency road repairs" are necessary before traffic is allowed back on the roadway.

WFSB Channel 3 reported early Wednesday morning the area was still closed, though the water appeared to have receded, though debris and silt were seen on a damaged roadway.
Farmington police said via Twitter that a detour using Brickyard Road has been set up to help motorists circumvent the area.
