San Diego Mesa College Vocal Ensemble Performs at Middlewoods of Farmington

Middlewoods of Farmington Assisted and Independent Living Community welcomed the San Diego Mesa College Vocal Ensemble, Saturday, May 31st. The ensemble, an auditioned choir of twenty-four singers, performs several concerts each semester and participates in choral festivals throughout their home state of California. The group has toured Australia, Canada, Europe, and Japan. Looking to perform in the Connecticut area, the ensemble contacted Middlewoods about hosting a concert and stopped at other local venues, such as Westfarms Mall (West Hartford) and Duncaster Retirement Community (Bloomfield) as well.

A wide variety of music was performed, from madrigals to vocal/orchestra works, in a range of styles including classical, folk and jazz. The choir was led by director, Dr. Richard Chagnon, a UCONN graduate. Choir members warmly greeted residents after their performance and spent time visiting before leaving the community. Residents declared the student performance “the best performance they had ever seen” and were thrilled to be able to enjoy the concert from the comfort of their home.
