Semifinals Set in Soccer, Field Hockey, Volleyball
A preview of the CIAC state tournament semifinal contests scheduled in field hockey, boys and girls soccer and girls volleyball.
Three rounds are complete and two more loom ahead as semifinal matchups are set for 60 Connecticut high school teams seeking state titles in field hockey, soccer and volleyball. The action shifts to neutral sites as schools compete Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for slots in CIAC championship games.
Of the 15 tournaments, 13 number one seeds remain, while a trio of No. 20 seeds are also still alive.
With 11 teams representing seven schools, the FCIAC is the most-represented conference. The SCC has 10 teams still competing, while the CCC has nine. The CCC and Shoreline Conference join the FCIAC with seven member schools making semifinal play.

A quartet of nicknames are shared by three semifinalists apiece:
- Rams (New Canaan, Old Saybrook, Cheshire)
- Bears (Stonington, Granby Memorial, Norwalk)
- Wildcats (Suffield, Old Lyme, Seymour)
- Spartans (Lewis Mills, Somers, Amity Regional)
One unique matchup pits Panthers against Panthers (E.O. Smith vs. Masuk, boys soccer).
