Serious Farmington Crash Sends 6 To Hospital, 2 Vehicles End Up In Stream: Authorities

FARMINGTON, CT — Six people were taken to area hospitals early Sunday after a two-car crash on Waterville Road (Route 10) that left both vehicles down an embankment and one overturned, according to local police and fire officials.

The crash occurred at about 12:56 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Waterville Road and St. Andrews Drive, according to the Farmington Police Department.

Before officers arrived, dispatchers received reports that one of the vehicles had rolled over in the collision and that five occupants needed assistance exiting, police said.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene, both vehicles were partially submerged in or adjacent to a stream and required extrication to remove occupants, according to the Farmington Fire Department.

Firefighters requested mutual aid and additional personnel to assist with the rescue effort. Assistance was provided by Tunxis Hose Company No. 1 with a rescue truck, IAFF Local S-15, UConn Fire Rescue from Station 122 with an engine and paramedics, and Farmington Motor Sports, which helped stabilize the vehicles during fire department operations.

In total, responders extricated six people from the vehicles and carried them up a steep slope to the roadway, where they were treated before being transported to local hospitals, fire officials said.

Authorities said the injuries reported are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Waterville Road was temporarily closed while crews assisted victims and cleared the scene, but has since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
