FARMINGTON, CT — The town's continued recovery from the fiscal impacts of the pandemic highlighted the top Farmington official's "state of the town" address last week.

Speaking June 16 at a Central Connecticut Chambers of Commerce breakfast meeting in Bristol at the Doubletree by Hilton hotel, Farmington Town Manager Kathleen A. Blonski discussed several key statistics surrounding the town and its recovery from COVID's impact.

The purpose of the meeting was for member towns to talk about the state of their respective communities.

"As much as COVID took a tremendous toll on our businesses and community, we learned some valuable lessons," said Blonski in her speech. "Our businesses creatively adjusted, our residents followed safety protocols and there were some unexpected silver linings."

For example, the town's economic development commission and municipal leaders had to utilize social media and other electronic communication methods to get information out because face-to-face operations were limited due to pandemic concerns.

Blonski highlighted Farmington's post-pandemic real estate growth, $7 million in pandemic aid via the American Rescue Plan Act and Farmington's plans to build a new high school, which was approved at the polls June 3.

The town, though, should also realize there are challenges ahead.

"While the future looks promising, inflationary costs, uncertainty due to the pandemic and supply chain issues will affect all of us," Blonski said.

"The Town of Farmington will continue to work hard to deliver the best town services at the lowest possible cost and keep our businesses and residents informed and engaged."
