FARMINGTON, CT — A state police cruiser was hit during an investigation into a fatal crash on Interstate 84 in Farmington Tuesday night, a report indicates.

The cruiser, a 2019 Ford Explorer, was set up in the westbound side of I-84 just after 8 p.m. between exits 38 and 37, according to a state police crash report. Its emergency lights were on and a flare pattern was set up on the road with a taper indicating the left lane was closed, a report indicates.

The driver of a 2016 Acura was looking at the crash and rear-ended the state police cruiser, according to a report.

The trooper assigned to the cruiser was not in the vehicle at the time and was not injured, state police said. The driver of the Acura, a 29-year-old Bristol man, reported feeling pain in his face, neck, and left hand and was transported by ambulance to UConn Health, according to a report. The driver of the Acura was issued an infraction ticket for following too closely and failure to wear a seat belt, according to a report.

State police did not detail the damage sustained to either vehicle. The trooper was investigating a multi-vehicle crash in which a 20-year-old Windsor woman was killed.
