Statement Regarding Chartwells from the Eye of the Student Body

A Farmington High student speaks on the Chartwells boycott

October 30th, I was one of the five students who met with Farmington High School principal Dr. Silva, members of the Farmington Public Schools Administration, and representatives of Chartwells. Despite what former parties may have mentioned, we as students have reached a bare minimal agreement with Chartwells regarding their services, most of which has been ignored. Our boycott continues as planned, as our most pressing issues with the company were not mentioned: the treatment of the students and their employees; Chartwells choosing instead to backpedal and treat us in a patronizing manner.

When Chartwells first came to Farmington Public Schools, there was a wide variety of excellent food. It was clear they put considerable effort into their product. Now, that effort has seemed lackluster at best, and Chartwells has not asked for our input this year.

What is clear is that Chartwells has not been treating the students who eat their food as their customers. The Farmington Public Schools Administration is not the customer. We deserve respect and a quality meal for the price we are paying.

We will boycott for one week, after that we will gladly see if Chartwells will make good on their promises. If they slip again, we will continue to boycott.

Sincerely,
