Setting the Record Straight

In a recent post, a party insider by the name of Phil Dunn had the following to say regarding my husband, Paul's, candidacy for Town Council this year: "I cannot imagine proposing to place a 31 year old person on our Town Council who has only lived in Town for a year." I have the following to offer regarding this statement, which I think resembles playground bullying.

Paul is a great husband and father to our son. He grew up in the area, and has lived in Connecticut his entire life, with the exception of the five years he went to college at Villanova University for his bachelor's and master's degrees, where we met and started our life together. He works hard, day and night balancing his busy work schedule (a family-owned third generation Structural Engineering firm), our personal commitments and spending quality time with our 18 month old son. Yet, he still feels compelled to volunteer his community service to try to make a difference in our hometown, Farmington, where we are raising our family.

One of the biggest complaints people often have about younger generations is that they are self-serving and don’t care enough about public service. You know what? After reading Mr. Dunn’s comments, who has never met Paul, I can see why so many young people remain disengaged. To personally attack someone, who happens to disagree with the status quo, and who strives for the betterment of the community is disappointing at best and morally objectionable. Paul knows there are many concerned residents in the community, irrespective of their political affiliation, who share common ground on his views concerning fiscal responsibility and premier educational opportunities; Paul’s drive, qualifications and ethics might be rare for a 31 year old, but they should be admired and not ridiculed. I encourage everybody who is looking for bold, fresh leadership in our town to vote for Paul Cianci, Jeff Apuzzo, Jon Landry and Justin Bernier for Town Council.

Sincerely,

Angela Cianci
31 y/o wife, mother and proud resident of Farmington
