Principal Lynn Katz wrote the post below in her blog, The Principal’s Journal:
This week the front lawn at Union School was transformed into a carnival by our innovative, creative, fourth grade environmentalists who turned trash (and whatever odds and ends they could find around the house) into challenging, unique, and adorable games of chance! Students at grade level had an opportunity to try their luck with games such as Puffle Dunk, or Pollution Revolution, or Hole in One Golf. Some students collaborated with partners to design and build their games, other students worked independently. All grades came to enjoy the fun and were invited (but not required) to contribute their spare change during this fourth grade fundraiser event.
This just in: All that spare change made a difference. Union School raised $511.32 for the Fuel Bank which is part of Farmington’s Community Chest. This Green Carnival was an example of how much fun children can have without video games or other electronics and how innovative our children can be with a cardboard box, some foil and a few toilet paper rolls!
