FHS vocalists joined musicians from across the country in Grapevine, Texas at the Gaylord Texan Resort on November 10-13.
FARMINGTON, CT — During the 2015-16 school year, along with other talented music students across the United States and overseas in military base schools, Navva Sedigh, Tristan Wong and Thomas Heath-Ringrose from Farmington practiced with dedication to gain a part in his/her/their local, district, and state music honor ensembles.
These Farmington musicians were selected to join the “best of the best” for the National Association for Music Education’s (NAFME) 2016 All-National Honor Ensembles on November 10-13, during the 2016 NAfME National In-Service Conference in Grapevine, Texas (outside Dallas). The gala concert started at 9:00 am on November 13th in the Texan Ballroom at the Gaylord Texan Resort.
The honors ensemble students rehearsed for three days with their conductors of band, orchestra and choir. The Farmington High School musicians performed with the All-National Honors Ensemble Choir under the direction of Dr. Anton Armstrong. Dr. Armstrong is Tosdal Professor of Music at St. Olaf College. Dr. Armstrong became the fourth conductor of the St. Olaf Choir in 1990 after ten years in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he had served on the faculty of Calvin College and led the Calvin College Alumni Choir, the Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus and the St. Cecilia Youth Chorale. Dr. Armstrong served as the only non-Japanese juror for the 68th Japan Choral Association National Choral Festival.
