Update: Details Released On Farmington Truck, School Bus Crash

Two lanes were closed on Interstate 91 for most of the morning after a school bus collided with a tractor trailer while changing lanes.

FARMINGTON, CT — State police Tuesday night released an accident report regarding a three-vehicle accident — including a school bus and a tractor trailer — that caused a large traffic jam for much of the morning in Farmington.

Traffic was backed up on Interstate 84 in Farmington Tuesday morning after a tractor trailer, a school bus and a pickup truck collided on a busy highway during the morning commute.

According to the state Department of Transportation, I-84 west had a 2.9-mile traffic jam between exits 40 and 39 because of the crash, which occurred between exits 39 and 38.

WFSB Channel 3 posted a video still of the accident, which showed a jackknifed tractor trailer and badly damaged vehicles at the scene.

According to WFSB, minor injuries were reported and one of the vehicles was a school bus that was not carrying any students.

In an accident report released at 7:47 p.m. Tuesday, police said the crash happened when the school bus, owned by Rocky Hill-based Autumn Transportation Inc., was trying to merge in the same lane as the tractor trailer.

Police said the bus was in the center lane and was attempting to merge into the right-hand lane when it collided with a tractor trailer operated by Werner Enterprises out of Omaha, Neb.

This caused the tractor trailer operator to lose control and slide over to the left lane, where it struck a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup being driven by 60-year-old East Hartford man.

The driver of the pickup, police said, was not injured.

The driver of the tractor trailer, a 58-year-old Bushkill, Pa., man sustained a suspected minor injury, police said.

Meanwhile, the school bus driver — a 50-year-old East Hartford man — had a "possible injury," according to police, who said the crash remains under investigation.
