Athletics

Porter’s varsity soccer head coach Avi Dubnov was selected as the Women’s Western New England Prep School Soccer Association (WWNEPSSA) Connecticut Prep Coach of the Year.

The Connecticut Prep Coach of the Year is voted on at the year-end WWNEPSSA meeting, based on previously submitted nominations.

“Winning WWNEPSSA Prep Coach of the Year is a huge honor for the program, and it shows that our players and staff have been recognized in what has been achieved at Porter’s in such a short space of time,” shares Mr. Dubnov. “The culture of the program and application of the players makes the environment such a fun and competitive one. I will accept this award on behalf of the players, coaching staff, and athletic support from everyone involved in this exciting journey at Miss Porter’s School.”

“What Avi has done in his brief time here has been incredible,” notes Chief Athletic Officer Jez McIntosh. “Not only has he been able to attract top student athletes to come to Porter’s, he has also gotten the most out of the pool of athletes already at Porter’s. Avi has tremendous knowledge of the game and knows how to convey that knowledge to his team in a way that is inspiring, motivating, and fun. I look forward to watching his team continue to progress in all facets of the game under his leadership.”

Mr. Dubnov just completed his second year as head coach of Porter’s varsity soccer team. He holds his USSF “A” license and NSCAA National and Advanced National diplomas. Mr. Dubnov also serves as head coach for the GU14 ECNL and GU15 NPL teams at the FSA Football Club, has been head coach for the Connecticut Olympic Development Program for the past four years, and is currently on the state staff to teach USSF licenses in New England. His previous experience includes assistant coach for the men’s soccer team at Trinity College and the Division I program at Central Connecticut State University.
