Randall Munroe is a former NASA scientist who is now a web-comic creator and New York Times best-selling author.

FARMINGTON, CT — The Farmington Public Library system is hosting a rather unique program Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the form of a virtual discussion with a fun, scientific author/comic creator focusing on wild hypotheticals in the world of science.
The event starts at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
Randall Munroe will join the library to talk about his new book "What If? 2: Additional Serious Scientific Answers to Absurd Hypothetical Questions."

While the title of the book is long, Munroe's book delves into wacky hypothetical scenarios and the scientifically-based results that could occur.
"Planning to ride a fire pole from the moon back to Earth? The hardest part is sticking the landing. Hoping to cool the atmosphere by opening everyone’s freezer door at the same time? Maybe it’s time for a brief introduction to thermodynamics. Want to know what would happen if you rode a helicopter blade, built a billion-story building, made a lava lamp out of lava, or jumped on a geyser as it erupted? Okay, if you insist," reads the library's summary of what would be discussed.
