Monday, January 29

Varsity Basketball vs. Kingswood-Oxford: W 63-59

Recap: Porter’s was back on the road again Monday to take on Class B and Founders League opponent, Kingswood-Oxford. Despite taking the lead early on and maintaining it the majority of the game KO gave Porter’s a run for their money. Once again in a close game, Porter’s did a great job keeping their composure allowing them to pull out the W (63-59).

Leading the way for Porter’s was Callie Godfrey ’20, Delaney Nwachukwu ’20 and Sarah Zukowski ’19 combing for a total of 38 points and 22 rebounds.

Also chipping in was Ana Bartkiewicz ’20 (8 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assist, 4 steals), Julia Teti 1’9 (8 points, 1 steal), Kyla Gallagher ’20 (7 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assist, 1 steal), Lila Conners ’20 (2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assist), D’Vine Straughter ’21 (2 rebounds, 2 assist) and Natalie Brennan ’20 (1 rebound).

Wednesday, January 31

Varsity Basketball vs. Westminster: W 60-47

Recap: Porter's came out flat against Westminster but was able to pull out the W. Ana Bartkiewicz '20 led the team with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assist, 2 steals and 1 block. Also, contributing was Julia Teti '19 (14 points), Kyla Gallagher '20 (9 points), Lila Conners '20 (9 points), Callie Godfrey '20 (8 points), Delaney Nwachukwu '20 (6 points), Sarah Zukowski '19 (3 points) and McKenna Cutler '19 and Natalie Brennan '20 each had one rebound. Porter's struggled with protecting the ball and finishing around the hoop on second-chance opportunities.

Varsity Ski @ Giant Slalom

Recap: The Porter's ski team traveled to New York yesterday to race at Catamount Ski Area against Berkshire School, Loomis Chaffee, and The Gunnery. In a small field of significant competition, Porter's looked strong and solid, skiing with increasing speed, skill, and confidence. Finishing in first place on the varsity roster was freshman Marjorie Plants who put down two well-executed runs and continues to build on significant training and experience. Similarly, Cricket Barnes '19 followed close behind in second place, and mid-season. Pia, Davis, '20, demonstrated a fierce competitive spirit and powerful race technique. Following in good stead were Cici Barton '20 and Rania Notowidigdo '21, with Evie Usich '20 skiing strong, but hamstrung by a tough first run.

Varsity Squash vs. Loomis: L 1-6

Recap: Porter's faced tough competition on the Loomis courts this afternoon. While Jenny Wu '19 (#6) was able to take a game off of her opponent, Sarah Wagner '20 (#7) was the only player to win for Porter's. 1. Talia Welker lost to Amara Haider 3-11, 6-11, 4-112. Lydia Gambacini lost to Ellie Struthers 1-11, 3-11, 1-113. Shushu Fang lost to Fiza Malik 4-11, 1-11, 5-114. Anya Lord lost to Lia Laprise 7-11, 5-11, 2-115. Gaelen Carroll lost to Ashley Edwards 6-11, 10-12, 2-116. Jenny Wu lost to Megan Liew 11-7, 4-11, 3-11, 9-117. Sarah Wagner defeated Emily 6-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-6

Friday, February 2

Varsity Squash vs. Buffalo Seminary: L 1-6

Varsity Squash vs. Mercersburg: L 3-4

Recap: This weekend marks the first HS Nationals competition for each player on the Porter's ladder, and so each match brings a new opportunity to learn from the competition and to get valuable tournament experience. In their first match against Buffalo Seminary, only Sarah Wagner '20 (#6) was able to earn a win for Porter's. Gaelen Carroll '18 (#4) played three close games against her opponent but couldn't take any.

In the next round later on Friday evening against Mercersburg, Porter's played stronger, smarter, more confident squash on every court. Matches were close and exciting, but Mercersburg took the win. Simrat Khalsa '19 (#7) won her match in four games, and Sarah Wagner (#6) won hers in three. Jenny Wu '19 (#5) persisted through losing the first two games to win the next three, taking her match in five. Gaelen Carroll (#4) got off to a strong start in the first game, but her opponent took the next three.

Saturday, February 3

Varsity Basketball vs. Convent of the Sacred Heart: W 53-32

Recap: In just their second home game of the season, Porter's took down Convent of the Sacred Heart 53-32. Leading all scorers with a double-double was Ana Bartkiewicz '20 with 13 points and 12 rebounds.Also chipping in was Delaney Nwachukwu '20 (12 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assist, 4 steals, 3 blocks), Callie Godfrey '20 (11 points, 8 rebounds, 1 steal), Kyla Gallagher '20 (6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assist, 4 steals), Sarah Zukowski '19 (4 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block), Julia Teti '19 (3 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals), McKenna Cutler '19 (2 points, 1 rebound, 2 steals), Natalie Brennan '20 (2 points, 3 rebounds), Lila Conners '20 (3 rebounds, 2 assist, 2 steals) and D'Vine Straughter '21 (2 rebounds). Porter's won the battle on the boards 47-40 and played aggressively on the defensive end coming up with 21 steals.

Varsity Squash vs. Convent of the Sacred Heart: L 0-7

Recap: Sacred Heart proved too powerful for the Porter's squad. Despite their heart, hustle, and drive, Porter's was unable to take a match in their final competition of the tournament. After losing the first two games in her match, Jenny Wu '19 (#5) rallied with her characteristic steadiness to take the third and fourth games before losing the fifth. Sarah Wagner '20 (#6) found enough grit to take the second game of her match 12-10 but didn't get a chance to establish momentum in any other games.
