Varsity Field Hockey vs. Canterbury: L 0-2
Recap: Porter's was well matched against Canterbury yesterday. The game was mostly played between the 25-yard lines, and the athletes on both sides were aggressively vying for possession. Although both goals were scored shortly after giving up penalty corners to Canterbury's offense, our defensive tenacity throughout the game was quite impressive. A game ball went to Captain Gaelen Carroll '18 for her consistent block, stops, and clears.
Varsity Soccer vs. Taft: W 2-0
Recap: Porter's Varsity needed to respond to the disappointing result vs. Pomfret by showing their improvements at defending as a unit all over the field. In the early stages both teams moved the ball well and worked hard to find that final pass, Sydni Scott '18 was released a couple of times and after she had a goal disallowed (for handball) was close to opening the scoring. Katie Konin '19, Laura Gouvin '20 and Natalie Godoy '21 showed discipline in their shape and composure on the ball. With only 15 minutes gone in the first half Gouvin '20 spotted a run from Sam Halligan '21 on the left side, Halligan '21 received the ball and twisted the Taft defender before calmly putting the home team 1-0 up. Six minutes later Gabby Owens '19 won a defensive header, from a Taft corner, that fell to Kyla Gallagher '20 on the edge of the 18, Gallagher '20 then ran from our box to Taft's beating three defenders before driving the ball into the top corner. The second goal of the game is one of the best individual efforts seen on Kiki’s turf field.
A slightly slower tempo in the second half but still both teams created opportunities, Taft went close from a corner and Gallagher '20 hit the underside of the bar. Getting a shut out against last season’s class A quarter finalists showed a higher level of concentration when Porter’s Varsity did not have possession. Mackenzie Kievman '18 had a very good game and organized throughout, Lauren Schramm '20 and Bryn Mathews '18 were solid when called upon and Maddie Duchesneau '18 and Gabby Owens '19 were resilient from start to finish. The central midfield were cohesive and the front three showed more structure in how they pressed. Naya Lipkens '18 and Jenna Hall '20 recorded their 8th shutout of the season.

Varsity Cross Country vs. Williston Northampton: L 39-22
Varsity Field Hockey vs. St. Lukes: L 1-2
Recap: Porter's was well matched against St. Luke's school yesterday on their home turf. Still managing missing players and injuries, the Porter's girls played, as usual, every ball and absolutely up to the last minute. A beautiful goal was tipped in by Gabrielle Brewer '19 after numerous shots on goal from Gabby Aucello '19 and great breakaways from Morgan Mastrangelo '19.
Varsity Soccer vs. Kent: W 5-0
Recap: Porter's Varsity soccer controlled their away game vs. Class A and Founders league opponents Kent this past Saturday. Kyla Gallagher '20 sent an early ball into the area where confusion between Kent's keeper and defender allowed Evelyn Lewis '18 to be in the right place at the right time with her first goal of the season. With 15 minutes remaining in the first half Natalie Godoy '21 took advantage of a clearance on the edge of the box and hit a shot first time from 22 yards to put the score at 2-0. Shortly after half time Gallagher '20 received a pass from Laura Gouvin '20 and then beat two defenders before taking it beyond Kent's keeper and scoring Porter's third goal of the afternoon. Sam Halligan '21 finished off a nice sequence after Olivia Grommers '18 and Gallagher '20 combined to send her through on goal. The fifth and final goal was scored late in the game when Halligan '21 put in a corner that was deflected in from a Kent defender. Varsity
